Farewell Tasiana, Mainza, and Nathan

Three years ago I introduced you to our newly arrived service workers Mainza and Tasiana. Time has certainly seemed to go quickly because we just saw them off at the airport at the end of their three year term of service. From Zambia, Mainza and Tasiana are Anabaptists belonging to the Brethren in Christ church. They were based out of the MCC field office in Prey Veng province.

Three new MCC Cambodia service workers walk through a poor neighborhood along the railroad tracks in Phnom Penh, Cambodia during an orientation tour of the city in 2023.

During their time in Cambodia, this family contributed greatly to the MCC team and its partners. Their presence brought warmth, collaboration, and encouragement, and they leave with deep connections across Cambodia and the wider MCC network.

As Humanitarian Response Partner Advisor, Tasiana Mulenshi supported MCC partners in Myanmar during a time of significant humanitarian need. She built strong, trusting relationships, showing empathy, humility, and deep care for those she worked with. Known for attentive listening and clear communication, she offered practical guidance, templates, and encouragement to help partners navigate their work. Her proactive approach ensured projects stayed organized and partners felt supported throughout her service.

Mainza Hanzukule served as Peaceful Education Coordinator and made many meaningful contributions to the MCC Cambodia team and its partners. He brought hands-on experience starting and leading Peace Clubs in Zambia that were instrumental to growing MCC’s Peace Club program beyond the pilot phase. He invested in learning new systems, becoming a key resource as the team adopted the Insight platform. Mainza strengthened project documentation through stories and photos and built strong relationships with colleagues locally and across the region. By prioritizing time in the province, he cultivated connections with local officials, school leaders, and students. Known for his collaborative spirit and welcoming presence, he also enriched team life by hosting visitors, organizing worship gatherings, and mentoring team members and Global Service Learning participants.

Nathan Hanzukule holds a special place in the history of MCC Cambodia, as he was born during his parents’ term of service and grew up in rural Prey Veng province. Nathan was only the second foreign child born on the team in Cambodia (our son Caleb was the first, a sign of improving healthcare in country as before then most were born in Thailand) and Nathan immediately became a beloved member of the MCC community. His joyful presence brought smiles to the team, and he will be fondly remembered as the family returns home, where many relatives are eager to meet him for the first time.

Caleb and Nathan were the first two foreigner babies on the MCC team to be born in Cambodia. Before them babies were usually born in Thailand.

Please join me in praying for this family as they return home and embark on the next stage of their journey.
